Health Benefits of Mango

The health benefits of eating Mangos are quite amazing.  There are loads of resources on their value in one’s diet.

The Mango Association says:

We are advised to eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day. Half a mango counts as one portion.

Dr. Martin Hirte writes a pretty comprehensive piece on the benefits of the mango.

Mangoes are full packed with vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants and contain like all fruits very few proteins, fats and calories. They are perfect to replenish salts, vitamins and energy after physical exercise.

And for pregnant women:

A pregnant woman should eat at least one mango a day – the kalium and magnesium of the mango relaxes the muscles, releaves stress and prevents abortion.

For prevention of health problems mango’s are a super fruit:

US Natural Health Research claims that a mango contains 1-3 times your recommended daily intake of Vitamin C and beta-carotene – a cancer fighting antioxidant. Mangoes also contain all 4 recognised anti-oxidants (namely vitamin A, Vitamin C & E and Selenium) that aid in the prevention of Heart Disease, Cancer and Diabetes – the three biggest killers in the Western world. More…

A complete makup of a mango can be found at nutritiondata.com.  So, does that make mango the most nutritional fruit around?  Well, not exactly.  That title goes to Guava for it’s high doses of vitamin B and C.  But it is in the top of the bunch next to Raspberries, Grapefruit and Peaches.  This ranking is a great way to see how the fruits stack up.
